Hi! I’m Helen and I founded Make Me Sew back in 2014.
I have always been a creative person and from a young age, I learnt how to sew and stitch from my parents who worked as tailors in the UK. All my education has had a focus on the creative arts and I enjoy making sentimental gifts and keepsakes.
Although I loved my career as a teacher, after starting a family, life became busy and I needed to think about what would work for me and my family dynamics. Make Me Sew was opened and worked on during my free time after school, during school breaks and sometimes late into the evenings.
I love personalised items and how special they can make you feel. I wanted to be able to create items and allow my customers to have the same feeling for their own family and friends or if they were to gift to someone else.
I am self-taught in sewing and stitchwork, surface design and print. I studied Art & Design and furthered my skills in BTEC courses and textile studies. I then went on to complete a BA Hons in Textile Design and Printed Surface Decoration.
I took a career as a Primary school teacher and specialised in the Art and Design curriculum. I opened up Make Me Sew whilst teaching as a side hobby and business and now working on it full time.
I own and run an embroidery business, designing and making personalised items. I personalise baby, toddler and adult essentials like baby blankets, towels and clothing.
I also will be introducing vinyl t-shirt prints and hard surface personalised keepsakes.
I love to also work on a personal level to create bespoke orders. I have also been lucky to have had commissioned work from other local small businesses for uniforms or logos for their business products.
From the design to the making and then the finished product, I carry out every step of the process myself.
Reach out to me if you are interested in commissioning work.
